Description:
The Province of British Columbia is seeking a qualified contractor to identify Wildfire Risk Reduction (WRR) opportunities within the Okanagan portion of the Okanagan Shuswap Natural Resource District (DOS). The primary objective of this project is to reduce forest fuel loading and mitigate the risk of wildfire impacts to nearby communities through strategic planning and operational readiness. The objective of this project is to develop an Okanagan Wildland Urban Interface Wildfire Risk Reduction Plan (WUI WRR Plan) in accordance with the Wildland Urban Interface Wildfire Risk Reduction Plan 2024 Development Standard and Guidance Document. The plan will focus on DOS, specifically the area south of Vernon, British Columbia. The scope of work is expected to concentrate on areas classified as extreme Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Risk Class 5, high-value resources, and assets. It is estimated that high-risk area is estimated to cover approximately 71,119 hectares. The services required under this contract include a range of technical and engagement tasks. Contractors must provide a clear rationale for how wildfire risk was assessed and how planning and fuel management units were identified. This includes incorporating key fire weather and behavior principles relevant to each unit and considering their proximity to values at risk.
