Description:
Description : The historic West Montrose Covered Bridge, built in 1881, is Ontario-s last remaining covered bridge and a tourist destination in the Region of Waterloo. The bridge requires a major rehabilitation. The preferred rehabilitation alternative identified through a Schedule ‘C- Environmental Assessment includes removing the existing steel Bailey trusses and strengthening the existing wooden trusses to achieve a 10 tonne design live load capacity. Generally, without limiting the scope of work, the bridge rehabilitation project includes the following:Superstructure repairsSubstructure repairs on the pier and abutmentsConstruction engineeringRemovals and temporary support of the superstructureNew floor systemCofferdam design and installation Dewatering for the placement of scour protection at the pier and abutmentsDesign and installation of height restrictor bars on the bridge approachesElectrical work to the bridge lighting, power outlets and fire alarm system Only contractors who have been successfully prequalified under PQ2024-15 and PQ2025-03 may bid on this work.
