Description:
Per McElhanney's condition assessement, the water and sanitary force mains installed under Wathl Creek are facing the threat of meeting air due to erosion of the creek bed. The water line has already met air and sustained damage, and the sanitary line is assumed to be at risk in the near future.
Leaving the two mains as is and waiting for failure is not a viable option. Federal Level of Service Standards (LOSS) guidelines are not met in their current state and in all scenarios that could follow. There is a significant, imminent risk to complete failure of both the water and sanitary systems to the north of Wathl Creek. And significant risk of damage to the environment from the failure of the mains.
Haisla Nation would like to further explore option 7 in the feasibility study and if not viable, agree with the recommendation of option 5. This would be considered in a pre-design as explained in the Request for Proposal (RFP).
Option 5 is to move the two force mains to the underside of the existing vehicle bridge and option 7 would involve building a pedestrian bridge to connect MK Bay Marina to the future shoreline project pathway and would move the two force mains under that bridge.
