- Description:
- The Dares Lake Reservoir, which has supplied water to the Town of Lunenburg for close to 60 years, is formed by an earth embankment dam and a granite block spillway structure. The spillway and dam structure are critical pieces of infrastructure for the Town and need upgrades. A precast concrete box culvert structure is proposed to replace the existing spillway in the same location, with an increased hydraulic capacity. The box culvert will also act as the eel passage structure, which will incorporate a ramp, lift rods, and a bevel gear mechanism. Additionally, the existing earth embankment dam will be rehabilitated by raising and widening the crest and placing riprap protection along the upstream slope. As part of the regulatory approval, the Contractor will need to incorporate dewatering and erosion and sediment control measures, as well as other conditions imposed, to ensure the work is completed as per the Environment Act and specific watercourse alteration terms and conditions.
