- In the fall of 2020, the District observed a significant horizontal crack on the upstream side of the Thirsk concrete arch dam near the interface of the original 1941 concrete and the newer addition.
The District of Summerland intends to direct award a contract for professional engineering services to support further site investigations, to complete the detailed design of remedial works for Thirsk Dam, and to provide technical support and contract administration services during the repair and remedial work.
The scope of work includes:Develop a scope of work and technical specifications for a contractor to complete concrete coring into the upstream face of the dam and conduct lab testing on concrete samples. Provide concrete test and condition assessment report. Provide environmental management plan. Prepare a survey plan for completing quarterly deformation surveys to monitor surveyed deformation of the dam crest. Optionally provide dam deformation monitoring with quarterly surveys for a period of two years.Review remedial options and complete required engineering design for repair of the surface concrete deflects including the existing crack on the upstream face of the dam, as well as other areas highlighted for repair from site investigations. Prepare design drawings, technical specifications and design support during construction. Support the District with procurement and selection of a contractor to complete the repair work.
