included intermediate and long-term decarbonization commitments from the university, which are outlined below: 40% greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction from a 2019 baseline by 2035 Net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2045The University is expecting to issue a procurement(s) subsequent to this RFI to solicit proposals from qualified and experienced firms to provide design and construction services to decarbonize its existing district energy steam system, which provides heating to over 80% of the campus floor area and accounts for over 65% of annual campus GHG emissions. The intention of the RFI is to gain a thorough understanding of technical solutions related to the decarbonization of legacy district energy systems, including but not limited to technologies such as air-source and ground-source heat pumps, wastewater heat recovery, exhaust heat recovery, and data centre heat recovery. The intent is also to understand various financing and operational options available to implement these technical solutions.
