SummaryEnvironment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) requires a quantitative estimate of involuntary Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reversal risk for forestry offset projects in Canada. This estimate will need to be performed for different climate change scenarios, for different project-s risk exposure characteristics and for different risk mitigations measures, or group of measures, implemented by the proponent. Based on these estimates, ECCC requires recommendation for the portion of offset credits that should be allocated to Environmental Integrity Account (EIA), a risk pool that will compensate for involuntary GHG reversal in order to maintain the environmental integrity of the federal GHG offset system.
