Description:
The B.C. Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Registry at the Ministry of Education and Child Care (the Ministry) is responsible for the certification of ECEs in BC including assessing proposed post-secondary ECE programs for recognition. This involves ensuring that post-secondary institutions apply the BC Child Care Sector Occupational Competencies (ECE Competencies) to guide the development of ECE program curriculum and learning outcomes for ECEs on the pathway to certification. As the ECE Competencies currently in use were last updated in 2001, the Ministry initiated a project to review and identify potential updates to the ECE Competencies.

As part of government-s ChildCareBC commitment to support ECEs to deliver quality, inclusive, and culturally safe child care programming, a draft Program Guide was developed in 2018-2019, that includes new standards of practice for the ECE profession, new and updated ECE Competencies, and standardized program-level learning outcomes for ECE graduates entering the profession.

To ensure that the Program Guide meets government-s commitments and responsibilities to deliver quality, inclusive child care that enables cultural wellness, the Ministry is seeking proposals from qualified contractors to revise and update content in the Program Guide.
