The County of Simcoe spans over 4,800 square kilometres and includes 16 member municipalities, surrounding the independent cities of Barrie and Orillia, which are not included in the service area. The County-s population is growing steadily, with increasing demand for transit access across both rural and urban centres.
Simcoe County Transit (LINX) was launched in 2018 to provide regional public transportation across the County-s large, mixed rural-urban geography. The service was developed in response to multiple planning studies, including the County-s Transportation Master Plan and Transit Feasibility and Implementation Study. These studies identified a gap in inter-municipal travel options, particularly for residents without access to a private vehicle. The LINX Transit system has experienced significant growth since its launch in 2018, with ridership increasing year over year. Specialized service demand is rising faster than anticipated and is now shaping service planning in real time.
