Description:
The University of Alberta is providing Advanced Contract Ward Notice to procure a number of components required to manufacture an earth orbit satellite. The contract will be issued to AMPTEX Inc. at 14 DeAngelo Drive Bedford, MA 1730.JustificationThe expected five-year lifetime of the mission requires that space qualified parts which are tolerant to a total ionizing radiation dose of 100 krad and tolerant to single event failure from a high energy ionizing particles up to a linear-energy-dose of 37 MeV cm2/mg. In addition we require low power consumption of less than 20 mW per chip (due to limited power on board the satellite and large number of chips that we will use). The radiation detector instruments which incorporate these chips must detect deposited radiation energy at the 100 keV level requiring ultra-low-noise chips, typically 3keV uncooled. Finally, since we must incorporate 24 chips on an electronics board within the detector head itself, we require a very compact design for each chip for tight mounting on circuit boards. The extensive research conducted has determined that only the products provided by Amptek can meets these specifications.
