Description:
Work of this Contract comprises of the following: Install a concrete apron at the Cell 5 effluent withdrawal structure, add a gate to the fence for access, and replace the Cell 5 outlet manhole. Prepare Cell 5 to serve as temporary storage by scarifying and recompacting the clay liner. Install a temporary bypass system to route effluent from Cells 1 and 2 to Cell 5 during construction. Isolate Cells 3 and 4 with line plugs, set up pumps and pipelines from Cell 1 & 2 to Cell 5. Transfer the wastewater from Cells 3 & 4 to Cell 5 and transfer any remaining sludge from Cells 3 & 4 to Cell 5. Estimated maximum sludge volume to be transferred is 80 bone try tonnes (BDT's). Strip the top 150mm clay liner layer from Cells 3 and 4, and condition as required. Remove the berm between Cells 3 and 4 to form one combined cell and lower the floor elevation in Cell 3 to match the floor elevation in Cell 4. Reuse suitable clay for backfilling, grade the bottom to a uniform level, and ensure proper compaction at perimeter tie-ins. The top 150mm of clay liner is considered contaminated and shall be re-used for fill in the newly formed cell. Regrade, condition, and recompact Cell 4 berms to a uniform 3:1 slope and level floor to ensure successful liner installation. Install a new HDPE liner system across the combined cell.
