- The Winkler Meridian Exhibition Centre was opened in 2021 and was built adjacent to the Winkler Centennial Arena. This new facility was the first phase of a two-phase plan by the City of Winkler to increase and upgrade their recreational facilities. Phase one included a fieldhouse, arena, walking track, playroom, and community meeting spaces. The ice plant system in the Meridian Centre arena was built with the capacity to make and maintain ice for the future redeveloped Centennial Arena and ice plant piping was provided to the west exterior wall of the Centennial Arena. Phase two of the City-s plan involves the renovation/rehabilitation of the existing 55-year-old Centennial Arena as part of the overall recreation and community campus. The proposed general scope of the renovation is to redevelop and modernize the existing arena by implementing energy efficient envelope and systems, constructing extensive code upgrades, and providing improved and safe spectator viewing and inclusive public amenities.The existing Winkler Centennial Arena was built in 1967 and has a building area of around 3,440 sm / 37,028 sf. The primary structural and building envelope system of the existing arena is a prefabricated “Corespan” system consisting of deeply corrugated metal panels spanning the full height of the walls.
