Summary Details:
BC Renal a program of PHSA is unique in its approach to integrated health care planning, policy and implementation within a regionalized structure for patients suffering from kidney diseases. Hemodialysis is a life sustaining treatment that is provided at 13 (12 adult and 1 pediatric) hospital based (in-center) dialysis units throughout British Columbia. As of October, 2020 there were 1460 in-center hemodialysis patients in BC and on average this number grows annually by 2-3%.There are currently 27 community dialysis units ("CDU") spread throughout the province of British Columbia. Physical locations of the CDU's vary from dense urban units to smaller, rural communities and the hours of operation vary significantly. For the purposes of this project PHSA will implement a strategic supply chain sourcing approach that consolidates the renal needs of all the Health Authorities. The BC Renal network model manages and consolidates the renal programs from all the Health Authorities.
