Description:
The Calgary Metropolitan Region (CMR) Growth Plan (Growth & Servicing Plans — CMRB) directs the creation of Context Studies in four areas of the region that are referred to as Joint Planning Areas (JPAs). These JPAs have been identified as areas where - in addition to urban municipalities and hamlet growth areas - growth will be directed within the region. They are also areas where significant infrastructure and growth pressures either currently exist or are anticipated. Context Studies are a non-statutory document for collaboratively facilitating growth in the JPAs, and provide a foundation for the sustainable, equitable and efficient provision of servicing, mobility, recreation, and environmental management. This project is for JPA 1, which includes a northern portion of The City of Calgary, a southern portion of the City of Airdrie, and a central portion of Rocky View County (see map below). The three JPA 1 municipalities are working trilaterally in a collaborative environment to create a Context Study for the area by the August 2025 Calgary Metropolitan Region Board (CMRB) deadline.
