Description:
Project Description : Alberta Energy proposes to initiate work to define and develop carbon intensity thresholds for clean hydrogen and anhydrous ammonia production in Alberta. These thresholds will be developed based on primary research by the consultant with input from industry, government, and potential key stakeholders in Alberta. Alberta Energy is also interested in better understanding our clean hydrogen and anhydrous ammonia carbon competitiveness (lifecycle GHG emissions intensity) compared to other jurisdictions (Canadian and global) and assessing whether Alberta-s hydrogen and ammonia has a GHG advantage and could contribute to overall global carbon reductions.The Government of Alberta-s Hydrogen Roadmap commits to integrating clean hydrogen - produced with minimal emissions - into Alberta-s energy systems. The Hydrogen Roadmap also envisions significant export potential for clean hydrogen, and its carriers such as ammonia, that are produced in Alberta. However, as more countries set carbon intensity thresholds for hydrogen production and imports, international demand for Alberta-s hydrogen and ammonia may be limited if Alberta does not meet low-carbon thresholds.
