Description : Background - The 2023 North American Indigenous Games Kjipuktuk (Halifax), as it is known to the Mi-kmaw, won the bid to be the host city for the 2020 Games, the 2020 Games were postponed due to COVID-19 pushing the games to 2023. Competitions will be held in 16 sports over 7 days (July 15-23) and will draw more than 5,000 participants from across Turtle Island (North America). The Halifax Commons will host a Cultural Village and Market Place to celebrate and share the beautiful life of the Mi-kmaw and Indigenous people from across Turtle Island. The sport competitions will be held at 21 venues across Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) and Millbrook First Nation. This will be the largest multi-sport and cultural event ever held in Kjipuktuk (HRM) & Nova Scotia (since contact) and the first time the North American Indigenous Games will be held in Atlantic Canada. NAIG is the nation-s largest multi-sport competition for young Indigenous athletes.
