Services for Forage Supply Assessment

Field Activities - Site Selection and Sampling Specifications
- Forage productivity sample locations will be selected
- A minimum of three clipping samples for forage productivity will be collected at each location
- Record GPS coordinates and description of the forage productivity sample location target plant community will be recorded at each site.
- The area should be walked to ensure all plant species are recorded
- Select 3 plots within 10 meters of each other that best represent the average forage production of the target plant community.
Field Activities - Line Intercept to Estimate Non-Productive Cover
- Estimate the non-productive cover, a 20m line transect shall be used.
Field Activities - Vegetation Clipping
- The Contractor shall establish circular sample plots
- Remove all woody litter
- Remove all non-palatable and/or poisonous species
- Collect all graminoid and forb litter and place into one separate bag.
- Clip all palatable graminoid and forbs rooted within the frame
Laboratory Activities - Oven Drying & Sample Weighing
- The Contractor shall weigh clipped samples after collection
Photographs
- A minimum of two photographs representing the plant community being clipped need to be taken
