Description:
The objective is to ensure the availability of qualified individuals to fulfill the role as a member of the Emergency Management Team (EMT) as paramedics on an “as required” basis in support of the Ministry-s Fire Management Program. Services may be required anywhere in the Province of Ontario based on the location of the incident.
The Ministry provides Base Camps in remote locations that do not have firefighting facilities commonly available. Access to a Base Camp may be limited by road conditions and distant from medical facilities.
The number of personnel on a Project Fire varies and may range between 50 and 500 people or perhaps more. The people involved in escalated fire situations may be from one or more of the following groups:
• Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services personnel from across Ontario;
• “Non-fire” Ministry personnel from across Ontario;
• Personnel from other government agencies, provinces and/or countries;
• Personnel hired expressly for the fire situation;
• Private industry; and
• Contract personnel from a variety of sources
Any of the personnel would be dispatched from a staging area to the Site. At the site, such personnel come under the direction of the Incident Commander (IC).
