Tender are invited for Provision of Aerial Wildlife Telemetry Mounts
Project Description : PROJECT OVERVIEWAlberta Environment and Protected Areas- () Provincial Woodland Caribou Program (Caribou Program) leads all caribou monitoring throughout the province, and maintains the provincial caribou occurrence database covering all caribou ranges across the province. This includes demographic and distributional monitoring, using data obtained from aerial surveys and radio-collared caribou. A key aspect of this monitoring work involves the aerial tracking and location of animals fitted with GPS radio-collars. Tracking is conducted via helicopter and involves locating radio-collared individuals whose collars emit a very high frequency (VHF) radio beacon.When radio-tracking, a biologist hones in on a given radio frequency using a receiver located inside the helicopter. This receiver is connected, via coaxial cable, to two antennas (Figures 1 and 2) attached to the exterior of the helicopter. Each antenna faces away from either side of the aircraft (i.e., to the port and starboard). Presently, for use on a Bell 206B, AEP typically uses a cross-tube attached to the underside of the fuselage in front of the skid gear, with antennas attached to each end.Alberta Environment and Protected Areas requires wildlife telemetry mounts allowing antennas to be physically attached to the exterior of the helicopter. We are specifically requiring mounts for use on Eurocopter AS350 (A Star)...
