Description:
The Ministry relies on mechanical equipment as a primary tool used for the suppression and control of forest fires. Pumps and chainsaws are prime examples of mechanical equipment used during forest fire suppression efforts, however other small engine operated devices such as generators, leaf blowers, and brush cutters are also used during suppression efforts. Mechanical equipment used for fighting forest fires in Ontario must be able to perform in demanding and challenging environments, thus the Ministry-s repair and performance specifications is very precise. The Ministry sets its standards for repairs very high and with strict tolerances in order to ensure all equipment is in peak condition prior to utilization on an incident. This type of equipment is relied upon by fire staff extensively and must be in proper working order when the times arise. Ontario owns approximately 1500 power pumps (Waterax models Mark 3 and Watson), 850 chainsaws (Husqvarna models 254, 254XP, 359, 550XP Mark II), 30 generators (Honda - various outputs) and several other small engine equipped items. The Ministry has contracted for mechanical repair and maintenance of its small engine equipment since 1992. Scope of Work The Ministry requires a qualified vendor to provide repair services to a large fleet of small combustion engine powered equipment, on an “as-needed” basis (as determined by the Ministry).
