Description : PHO believes that the following procurement qualifies as a sole source or single source procurement. The purpose of this Advanced Contract Award Notice (ACAN) is to determine if there are other proponents capable of meeting the requirements of the procurement for the following supplies for PHO. Vendor: Abbott Rapid Diagnostics Product: BinaxNOW Legionella Urine Antigen Test Kit Purpose: A Health Canada approved test for the qualitative detection of Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 antigen in urine specimens from patients with symptoms of pneumonia This test assists in the presumptive diagnosis of Legionella infection. This urinary antigen test allows for early diagnosis by using a urine sample. It is a rapid test and results are available within 24 hours. A positive result provides a presumptive diagnosis of disease made in conjunction with clinical symptoms of pneumonia. It is also utilized to assist in outbreak management. PHO believes that the BinaxNOW Legionella Urine Antigen Test Kit is the only commercial kit for this use which is approved by Health Canada.
