Description : RFP for the provision of the supply, delivery and installation of an Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer used for the determination of cations in solutions by sample atomization using a plasma torch and measurement of emitted radiation by an optical spectrometer, for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Scope of Work Solid extracts or liquid samples are introduced into the instrument via an automated delivery system which nebulizes the sample into a mist and subsequently atomizes it in a plasma flame. In the plasma the atoms- electrons absorb thermal energy and move to higher energy levels (referred to as being in an excited state) with some atoms absorbing enough energy to lose electrons forming cations. As the atoms/cations flow out of the instrument they cool down and electrons return to their ground state energy level, causing emission of electromagnetic radiation at various wavelengths unique to each element. To determine the concentration of each element of interest in the sample, an optical spectrometer measures the intensity of radiation at the wavelengths known to correspond to that element.
