Description:
In 2023, it was announced that a new battery gigafactory would be constructed within the City of St. Thomas. In response to the ongoing and future development required to take full advantage of the new industrial opportunities associated with the gigafactory, the City has undertaken the planning and design of a new industrial park formally named Yarmouth Yards. This new industrial park has triggered the need to construct a second Water Reclamation Facility (WRF2) to treat the additional sanitary flows, which will be located at the Northwest corner of the intersection of Dalewood Road and Water Tower Line. WRF2 is expected to be online in Dec 2028.
To this end, a master plan approach 3 and 30% preliminary design are in progress and anticipated to be complete December 2024. WRF2 is being designed to 50MLD average daily flow, conventional activated sludge type complete with tertiary filtration, UV & a nutrient recovery facility.
The City may undertake an early works package consisting of servicing, erosion and sediment control, pre-grading and pre-fabricated building / workshop for storage of long lead items such as transformers, switchgear, motor control centres, UV & other items that may be identified. Archaeology work will be completed by others.
The City has identified quality, long term operating efficiency and time as key project drivers. As a result, the city intends on completing the project under a progressive design build (PDB) model.
