- PURPOSE The purpose of this document is to identify potential qualified vendors for the provision of private physiotherapy services related to post-operative hip and knee rehab related to increased demand with increased surgical targets. This approach would provide critical rehabilitative services in a timely manner as close to home as possible. CURRENT STATE To further support this increased demand, we are pursuing an option that would allow for elective hip and knee post-operative care to be provided in private clinics while SHA continues to recruit to fill vacancies. SHA has set standards on the required number of physiotherapy visits and costs that would then be covered through the SHA. Clinical Standards completed a review of the literature and provincial benchmarks and have recommended the following in alignment with insurance coverage: 3-6 visits based on the benchmark range with the reference to 3 visits for total hip replacement and 6 visits for total knee replacement since the total knee arthroplasty may require more intervention as far as regaining range of motion. CURRENT AND SHORT TERM NEEDS This option will be temporary for one-year with review period established and will be scoped to post-operative hip and knee rehabilitation.
