Description:
The Orbitrap Exploris 240 High Resolution Mass Spectrometer will be used as a part of the department-s research projects studying toxicity and removal of organic matter in oil sands process water, the use of different reclamation strategies, and to monitor the different approaches of micro pollutant removals. These research projects require the mass spectrometry technology to have the following capabilities:1. Able to differentiate sulphur-containing compounds from oxygen-containing compounds.2. Ultra-high resolution (≥ 240,000 (FWHM) at m/z 200 in in all scan modes and both polarities.3. 1 ppm RMS mass accuracy with internal calibration, and 3 ppm RMS with external calibration.4. Wide dynamic range (≥ 4 orders of magnitude) and wide mass range (40-6000 Da).5. Spectrum multiplexing allowing for simultaneous detection of up to 20 precursor ions.6. Rapid polarity switching from positive to negative mode during the same run.There is no commercial equivalent in the marketplace that combines all of these capabilities in a single instrument, which are critical to the department-s research.
