Description:
The Ministry of Forests is looking to complete a wildfire risk reduction treatment in the forested area of crown land around the neighbourhood of Marsh subdivision. The proposed treatment area is located approximately 6km West of Quesnel. The site consists of one treatment unit 15.1 hectares in size located off of the end of Peterbrook road. The treatment unit has an old road that would be ideal to work from but is in disrepair and would need to be upgraded and extended to be viable if proponent wanted to use it for operations. The stand and stock table shows a volume of 181 m3/ ha in the layer one part of this treatment which will allow the proponent to do a small scale salvage on this project in conjunction with wildfire risk reduction work like thinning and pruning. Please note, since mechanical treatment is recommended, a terrain stability assessment should be conducted along the North and East boundaries where the boundary is hung on top of the slope, of which in some places exceeds 90% slope just beyond. A professional assessment from a Geo Tech is recommended. This treatment will tie into past wildfire risk reduction treatments and terminates on the bank of Baker creek. All work including the removal of material and the completion of pile burning must be completed by March 15, 2025.
