- The Ministry is seeking a qualified and experienced Proponent to undertake repairs and upgrades to the existing boat portage rail system located in North Tweedsmuir Park. Tweedsmuir Provincial Park is the largest provincial park in British Columbia, encompassing approximately 981,000 hectares of wilderness. The northern portion of the park is accessible only by boat or floatplane due to the extensive interconnected lake system formed by Whitesail Lake, Ootsa Lake, and Tetachuk Lake. The rail portage system provides a unique and historically significant transportation link between Whitesail Lake and Eutsuk Lake. The portage has been in operation since the 1930s, predating the flooding of the Ootsa Reservoir. While the exact alignment and infrastructure have evolved over time, the fundamental system remains the same: boats are loaded onto a rail-mounted trolley cart and transported approximately 600 metres across land between the two lakes. Due to the remote location and limited site access, the work will require careful planning, coordination, and logistical management.
