- Calgary Transit (CT) has been using Hitachi switch machines since 1980s when the first NE and NW LRT lines were commissioned. Hitachi Switch machines are very reliable and are the only switch machines that will work with the current system without engaging a consulting firm. If other switch machinesare used, then the entire system will need to be redesigned at a significant cost. CT is intending to enter into agreement with Hitachi to either rebuild switch machines or purchase new units or components to replace or repair those that are not functioning properly. The refurbished switch machineswill have the same warranty as a new switch machine from Hitachi.
