Overview of the Work/Service Required
This Marsh Road Fuel Mitigation in the Quesnel Resource District project is aimed at reducing wildfire risk by creating shaded fuel breaks to reduce the availability and continuity of surface ladder and canopy fuels in order to facilitate fire prevention and protect residential properties, as well as, timber, wildlife, and recreation values on the land base.
This will be accomplished by hand thinning of medium to small diameter trees to a target of 500 stems/ha, creating sufficient crown separation, pruning ladder fuels up to 3 m in height, and meeting prescribed forest fuel loading targets of 10T/ha (from a current average of 15T/ha) by removing timber and piling debris for burning.
Biodiversity objectives, riparian values, and other considerations from legislation and regulations (e.g. Forest Range and Practices Act and Forest Planning Practices Regulations) are also included in this project.
