Tender are invited for ITQ-West Side Fort Nelson Caribou DNA survey

Summary Details:
FLNRORD aims to hire a contractor to fly internal and external staff to conduct fecal DNA collection in the Westside Fort Nelson range; this is the first project of this nature approved for Boreal caribou in BC, and this technique should provide robust population estimates and complement information gathered from recruitment ratios.
One sampling session (one each in December, January, February and maybe March) will require a minimum 18 hours of flight time. This number of hours will be divided between 2 flights crews to optimize weather windows and to provide greater options to face unforeseen field situations related to the distance between landing sites and sampling sites. Sampling sessions are expected to take 2-3 days per crew based on required time on the ground.
The 3 km transect survey design will be used for WestSide Fort Nelson, staging out of Fort Nelson. Each session will be conducted 3-4 weeks part, the first one in December 2021.
Opportunistic collar status checkups via telemetry will be conducted as possible while in flight.
