Summary Details:
- Microsatellite genotyping of hair and tissue samples to identify individual black bears
- Sorting samples for visual species identification and to select an appropriate sub#sample to
provide for laboratory species testing, individual identification, probability of identity, gender identification, and match testing to other samples of interest submitted to the lab by FLNRORD.
-Use lab protocols that minimize genetic errors such that genotyping errors do not influence
population estimation and analysis. These protocols must be consistent with prior analyses
completed for FLNRORD for wildlife population estimation projects. Provide documentation of
error testing protocols.
- Provide the above data in an omnibus data format such as Excel or DBF.
- Provide a layman's description of the analyses conducted, problems encountered, and a test to detect multiple captures of project bears and cougars in other databases.
- Store all samples and DNA until FLNRORD agrees they are no longer needed, to a maximum of 5
years.
