  • Description:
  • The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship will conduct aerial sheep population inventories in winter 2025 (February and/or March) as part of its efforts to monitor and manage wildlife populations in the Peace Region. Two Bell 206 series helicopters and minimum 2 BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) approved pilots will be required to complete the surveys. Surveys will take place in Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) 7-51 and 7-36. Total flight time for these surveys is estimated at 100-110 hours, or 10-12 days.
    Wildlife Management Unit 7-51: The survey area will encompass the West Toad-Gundahoo population herd area west of Muncho Lake. This survey will be based out of Muncho Lake and/or Toad River. Approximately 7-8 days of flying is anticipated to complete this Stone-s sheep minimum count survey with 2 crews - approximately 75-85 hours of total flight time.

    Wildlife Management Unit 7-36: The survey area will encompass the Dunlevy, Schooler, and Lower Ospika population herd areas within WMU 7-36, including the western portion of WMU 7-35. This survey will be based out of Hudson-s Hope or local accommodations within the area. Approximately 3-4 days of flying is anticipated to complete this Stone-s sheep minimum count survey with 2 crews - approximately 20-25 hours of flight time.
