- The Selkirk Resource District Wildfire Suppression Rehabilitation program is administered through the Ministry of Forests in collaboration with BC Wildfire Service. Our mandate is to conduct rehabilitation on wildfire suppression activities where the use of heavy equipment requires rehabilitation to minimize fuel hazards, maintain natural drainage patterns, address damage to infrastructure and address public safety. The Ministry of Forests wishes to set up an archaeological services contract due to our legislative requirement under the Heritage Conservation Act. The purpose of the contract is to determine if any archaeological artifacts may be present in a proposed wildfire rehabilitation project, if they will be impacted by wildfire rehabilitation activities, and if so how to reduce or eliminate the impact. Archaeological services will be conducted in the Selkirk Resource District which includes the municipalities of Grand Forks, Castlegar, Nelson, Kaslo, Nakusp, Revelstoke, Golden, and Creston. Work includes field reviews for select 2025 fires indicated in the AOA for Wildfire Rehabilitation 2024. The included fires are: • 25 N71928 Kidd Creek Additional work sites will be determined throughout the course of the contract based on wildfires that occur during wildfire season.
