Description:
PROJECT BACKGROUNDPigeon Lake Provincial Park (PigeonLPP) is located approximately 100 km south of Edmonton, Alberta. The existing boat launch at the day use area is approximately 9.2 m wide by 20.5 m long and was installed in February/March 2024. The boat launch is constructed of twenty (20) large concrete pads (4600mm wide x 2020mm long x 200mm thick).The side slopes are showing signs of erosion which has caused some areas of the concrete pads to be undermined. The end of the launch does not extend into deep water, which creates a challenge for launching some boats.Immediate repairs are required to extend the boat launch into deeper water by establishing grade and a granular base, moving two existing pads from the top of the launch to the lake end of the launch, installing new concrete pads to increase the total length of the boat launch, and installing washed river rock to protect the edges of the boat launch from erosion and undermining.The intent of this project is to extend the boat launch using similar pads and installation technique as what was installed in early 2024.PROJECT OBJECTIVEThe goal of this project is to complete upgrades to the boat launch at the day use area at PigeonLPP in order to provide improved boat launch access to the public.
