- An Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN) is a public notice indicating to the supplier community that a public body intends to award a goods, services, or public works contract to a pre-identified supplier(s). An ACAN is used when a public body believes that there exist only the named suppliers capable of providing the required commodity. It also allows other suppliers to indicate their capacity and interest in bidding by submitting a ‘statement of capabilities- which outlines the suppliers- ability to meet the requirements of the procurement.If no supplier submits a statement of capabilities that meets the requirements set out in the ACAN, public bodies may then proceed with awarding the sole-source contracts to the pre-identified suppliers.
