Description:
Cottonwood Campground is located within Oldman Dam Provincial Recreation Area, approximately 13 km north of Pincher Creek along Highway 785. The campground offers a mix of un-serviced and powered campsites suitable for both RVs and tents, providing visitors with an opportunity to camp along the OldmanRiver under the canopy of cottonwood trees. The nearby Oldman River Reservoir is a popular destination for water-based recreation, including boating, fishing, and swimming. In 2023, all 29 powered campsites at Cottonwood Campground were vandalized. The vandals opened the power pedestals, removed allelectrical wiring, and damaged various pedestal components. Additionally, two (2) main breaker panels were damaged beyond repair and require replacement. While the underground wiring remains undisturbed, the system is non-operational due to the theft of the wiring and damage to key components. Fullrestoration of the electrical service is needed to bring the campsites back online. Alberta Parks is seeking engineering services to assess the extent of the damage, develop a design for the repair and replacement of the power pedestals, main electrical panels, and associated infrastructure, andprovide construction administration services during implementation.
