• The Municipality of Casselman is responsible for the planning, operation, and maintenance of a safe, efficient, and accessible transportation system that supports residents, businesses, emergency services, and the local economy Casselman is a rapidly growing, bilingual community, covering 5.2 km2, with an estimated population of approximately 4,100 residents (2021 Census). The municipal transportation network includes local roads, collector and arterial corridors, active transportation infrastructures, and key connections to County and provincial transportation facilities.
  Casselman-s transportation system also includes unique structural constraints. The VIA Rail corridor intersects the municipality, with an active passenger service that occasionally stops for boarding during peak travel periods. These operations can temporarily block several east-west connections through the municipality, resulting in recurring congestion and delays, particularly during morning and afternoon peak periods. This characteristic makes network redundancy and traffic circulation planning especially important.
  The Municipality maintains approximately 30 km of municipal roads, serving both established neighborhoods and developing residential and commercial areas. Casselman is strategically located along Highway 417, 25 minutes east of Ottawa, and benefits from proximity to regional transportation corridors while also facing increased pressures related to through-traffic, commuter patterns, and regional growth.
  Casselman continues to experience growth and development that place increasing demands on its transportation system. Planned residential, commercial, and employment growth, combined with changing travel patterns and heightened expectations related to safety, accessibility, active transportation, and climate resilience, require a coordinated and forward-looking approach to transportation and mobility planning.
