  • The Unversity of Ottawa is pleased to invite qualified proponents to submit a proposal for a digital oscilloscope for fiber sensing experiments. The requested digital oscilloscope is to provide a minimum of 13 GHz analog bandwidth and 80 GS/s acquisition rate. The instrument is the centerpiece for ultrahigh resolution sensing systems.a. General Description:A high bandwidth (13 GHz) and high sampling rate are required for the following high-impact projects:The random feedback optical parametric oscillator sensor (RF-OPOS): This will be the 1st concept to use RF-OPO for sensors, especially with tunable spatial resolution and location ability for static and dynamic ultrasensitive sensing, which will be enabled by the 13 GHz and 80GS/s digital oscilloscope. It will add a new class of OPO based distributed sensor. Compared with the traditional static strain or temperature fiber sensors, the proposed sensor has ultrahigh resolution with an improvement of 1000x. Geophysical research on earthquakes and volcanoes requires monitoring the earth-s crustal deformation continuously with a strain resolution on the order of nano-strains (nɛ) in static to low-frequency regions.
