Description:
Brazeau Reservoir Provincial Recreational Area (PRA) is located approximately 95 kilometers northwest of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. This PRA includes 33 unserviced front-country campsites in Loops A and B, and 20 electrified sites in Loop C. There are an additional 18 un-serviced front-countrycampsites at the West Canal location. A large main group use area, separate from the campsite loops, is also located within the PRA. The PRA is popular for kayaking and fishing. The main group use area is the focus of this project. It contains a large gravel area for group camping and providesrecreational amenities such as a grass volleyball court, picnic shelter, and water access. As park visitation continues to grow, concerns about the condition of the main access road and shoreline erosion along its length have increased. Regional staff identified critical issues, prompting AlbertaForestry and Parks (AFP), in collaboration with a consulting firm and internal stakeholders, to complete a Park Infrastructure Assessment (PIA) in October 2023. The assessment recommended prioritizing access road and shoreline armouring improvements within the group use area to extend the life of theroad and maintain safe access for visitors.
