Tender are invited for Coal Lake Dam Spill Capacity Assessment - 2022
Project Description : The Coal Lake Dam was constructed in 1972/1973 and is located in the valley that contains Pipestone Creek, just upstream of it-s confluence with the Battle River. The Dam is located approximately 60 km southeast of the City of Edmonton at NE-26-46-23-W4M as shown in figure 1.0. The dam retains water in Coal Lake to provide a reliable water supply for the city of Wetaskiwin as well as augment flows downstream in the Battle River during low flow, if required. The reservoir also provides recreational opportunities to the public.The dam is a relatively low height dam (approx. 8.2 m), however its length and impounded reservoir volume is quite large. The reservoir capacity at the design full supply level (FSL= 702.87 m) is 38,000 dam3 (22,700 acre ft.). The Dam is a homogeneous impervious embankment with a cut-off trench and horizontal filter below the downstream shell. The dam crest width varies between 5.5 m and 6.0 m with the original constructed elevation of 705.92 m. The upstream slope is at 7H: 1V with 1.2 m of pit run gravel serving as erosion protection whereas the downstream slope is 2H: 1 V.Appurtenant structures include a Concrete Spillway, Riparian Outlet, and Emergency Spillway.
