SUMMARY
The Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC) in partnership with City of Vancouver (CoV) is seeking a multi-disciplinary consulting team to conduct a circular economic study of the food sector in the greater Vancouver region. The purpose of this study is to quantify the current level of circularity, identify and track food system inputs and outputs, and inform recommendations for key practices with high potential for increasing circularity in the food sector in greater Vancouver.
The project involves three phases of work summarized as follows:
Phase 1: Landscape Analysis. Undertake research and analysis of existing economic, environmental, social, cultural and policy conditions, market realities, and place-based considerations that describe the current state of the local food sector (approx. 25% of total project effort);
Phase 2: Materials Flow Mapping and Analysis. Map and provide analysis of (a) 'materials' flow, including elements such as raw resources, products, emissions, energy, water and wasted materials, and economic metrics including jobs, estimated dollar value, business-to-business relationships within the local food sector, and (b) supply chain dependencies and relationships (approx. 50% of total project effort);
