- Description:
- The Rock and Roll Society of Edmonton will provide music lessons to youth in the Open Services and Secure Services programs at Yellowhead Youth Provincial Campus Based Care Facility (YY PCBC). Music lessons will occur for one hour per week in the Open Services unit and alternate one hour per week in each Secure Services unit. This will include setting up and tuning instruments, learning new material, and practicing skills and material.Music offers the patterned, rhythmic, repetitive sensory input that helps to increase self-regulation and functioning in lower regions of the brain. When youth engage in these activities alongside safe, predictable adults, they learn how to associate these regulated feelings within their relationships with others. With increased ability to regulate the lower parts of the brain, youth will be able to access higher functions of the brain that promote logic, insight and reason.
