Tender are invited for Caribou and Bison Recovery Operations (Wildlife Tracking, Capture, Radio collaring and Predator Lethal Control)
Project Description : Project Objectives: The Caribou, Bison and Wolf Management Program is designed to monitor caribou and bison population vital rates and distribution and inform provincial caribou (and bison) management and recovery efforts. Wolf management is designed to prevent extirpation of individual caribou populations. The government requires contractor assistance in achieving the following objectives: 1. Caribou, bison and wolf tracking and captures: the process of using aircraft to efficiently track and locate animals and use net-gunning equipment from a helicopter to safely, quickly and efficiently restrain caribou, bison and wolves until the helicopter is landed. This work typically takes place in areas of dense boreal forest.2. Caribou, bison and wolf collaring: a radio-collar will be attached to each individual animal. This activity is to be completed as quickly and efficiently as possible, with animal and aircraft crew safety as priorities. The annual goal is to deploy up to a possible maximum of approximately 150 radio-collars in 15 caribou populations and up to 5 bison populations across the province(Figure 1) and up to 60 radio-collars on wolves in selected areas (to be determined).
