Tender are invited for Bison Minimum Count Population Surveys - NW
Project Description : In northwest Alberta, multiple caribou ranges overlap populations of Wild Wood bison (Bison bison athabascae) such as the Etthithun and Hay-Zama populations, which are listed as Endangered under Alberta-s Wildlife Act, and Threatened under the federal Species at Risk Act (SARA). Management efforts on wood bison require current population information including minimum counts, sex ratios, and recruitment rates to inform decisions. Additionally, accurate population estimates of alternative prey species such as Wood Bison are needed when considering appropriate actions for caribou recovery.
