- The Police Act (the Act) mandates the Province maintains an adequate and effective level of policing throughout Alberta. Alberta-s Police Recruit Selection Standards (Standards) were developed in early late 1990s. These Standards are invaluable in ensuring the most appropriate and suitable applicant is selected to be a police officer in Alberta. The importance of productive recruitment and selection procedures cannot be overemphasized. The goal of this project is to ensure Alberta-s police recruit selection process remains a key component in advancing effective and responsible policing in the province. In addition, the Standards must also be a valid, legally defensible, and an inclusive process which ensures that the best applicants are selected to become police officers in Alberta.
