  • Description:
  • The Department of National Defence has a requirement for an Aerodrome Wildlife Risk Assessment at Garrison Petawawa. The objective of this risk assessment and analysis is to provide an understanding of the dangers to aviation associated with present wildlife around the Petawawa aerodrome, enabling evidence-based decision-making based on the many variables associated with aviation at the Petawawa aerodrome, including aircraft type, wildlife species present, habitats, migration patterns, etc. Additionally, the results of this wildlife risk assessment will be used in the future to provide information to establish a Wildlife Control Program at Petawawa aerodrome in order to mitigate any significant safety concerns related to wildlife. This assessment is to take place over March 2025 with an end date NLT 28 March 2025. The risk assessment regulation is mandatory for airports following ICAO Standards and is a necessary step towards fulfilling Canada-s obligations in following the NATO STANAG 3879, as well as satisfying the CAF safety program through A-GA-135-001/AA-001, Chapter 5. CFB Petawawa has significant wildlife concerns but lacks the information required to properly identify and implement a wildlife control program. The results of the risk assessment will be used to guide and inform the Wildlife Control Program in the future, and as a tool to measure future changes in the hazard and risk assessments.
