  • n lang="EN-GB" style="font-size:11.5pt"The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship will conduct Stone-s sheep population inventories in winter 2023/2024 as part of its efforts to monitor and manage wildlife populations in the Peace Region. Conducting population inventories will provide updates to Stone-s sheep population estimates and assess the stability of populations via density, lamb recruitment, and composition of rams and ewes, and assess the harvest rate of Stone-s sheep in priority areas of the Northeast. Two Bell 206 series helicopters and 2 BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) approved pilots will be required to complete the surveys. Surveys will take place in Wildlife Management Units (WMU) 7-42, 7-51, and 7-54. The methodology for these surveys will adhere to the RISC standard of the Minimum Total Count for Stone-s sheep. /'span lang="EN-GB" style="font-size:11.5pt"The area to survey in WMU 7-42 are the Besa-Prophet mountain ranges located north of the Sikanni Chief River, south of the Muskwa River and encompasses the Redfern-Keily Park. The area to survey in 7-51 are the mountain ranges surrounding Wokkpash Lake south of the Alaska Highway and immediately west of the WMU boundary. The area to survey in 7-54 are the mountain ranges of the Muncho Lake Provincial Park north and east of the Alaska Highway and includes some targeted ranges of theNorthern Rockies.
