Description:
The City of Winnipeg is seeking a Presenting Sponsor to support Sports Programs in Inner City Neighbourhoods (SPIN) program. -SPIN provides free sports programming to children aged 6-14 years that live in inner-city neighbourhoods. These children may otherwise not have the opportunity to experience sport due to socioeconomic barriers. SPIN programs take place at various locations throughout the city and provides free transportation to and from host sites. - Since the 2018 SPIN season nearly 15,000 inner city youth have participated in the program. Sports include skating lessons, soccer, golf, basketball, baton, gymnastics, cross country skiing and more. Programs are offered throughout the year. SPIN provides opportunities to learn basic athletic skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership and fair play in a non-competitive and safe environment. - SPIN can act as a deterrence from negative behaviour. Engaging in sport can decrease the likelihood of involvement in gangs, drugs or violence as it provides youth with structure and a sense of purpose. It also helps them form positive social networks outside of potentially harmful environments. - SPIN focusses on positive goals. Sports can help young people focus on achieving goals, developing a work ethic, and creating long-term aspirations, which can distract them from immediate negative influences. - SPIN can provide a sense of belonging.
